At times, it’s easy to look at the state of Christianity and ask, “What’s going wrong?” With so much division and confusion, we might find ourselves questioning the direction of our faith. But how often do we pause and look inward, wondering if our own actions have contributed to the doubt others may have about their faith?
One of the most pressing issues we face today is the disconnect between belief and action. How often do we see Christians preaching about love, yet failing to demonstrate it in their daily interactions? How frequently do we encounter judgment and condemnation instead of understanding and compassion? The Bible calls us to be the hands and feet of Christ, to serve others and reflect His love in tangible ways. Yet, too often, we turn inward, prioritizing personal salvation over loving our neighbors as Christ taught.
Furthermore, there are those who eagerly point out the faults in others, yet fail to address the “speck” in their own eye before criticizing. This is a dangerous tendency that creates division rather than fostering unity and understanding. It’s easy to become self-righteous, but Christ’s call is one of humility and grace.
Another challenge we face is the selective way in which we engage with Scripture. Too often, we pick and choose which parts of the Bible we follow, conveniently ignoring passages that challenge us. Christianity is not about shaping God’s word to fit our own desires or principles; it’s about aligning ourselves with His will. The teachings of the Bible are meant to guide us, not to be selectively applied based on our comfort level.
The real issue, however, is not with Christianity itself, but with Christians who have lost sight of the heart of the faith. When we focus more on our differences than on our common mission in Christ, we risk missing the core message of the Gospel. We are called to unity, to love, and to service—not division, judgment, or self-interest.
So, let’s return to the basics: love, humility, and living out the Gospel in every area of our lives. The world desperately needs a faith that reflects Christ’s teachings, and it starts with each of us. Let’s examine our hearts, renew our commitment to live as Christ did, and work together to embody the true spirit of the Gospel.
